Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal data Motor Verdict collects, why we collect it, how we use it, and the rights you have over it. It applies to anyone who visits the site or purchases a report.
1. Who We Are
Motor Verdict is a UK-based vehicle history report service. For any privacy enquiry, contact hello@motorverdict.co.uk.
2. What Data We Collect
When you use Motor Verdict, we collect:
- Your email address — collected at Stripe Checkout (or immediately after payment if Stripe did not return one). Used to identify your account, send a magic-link so you can return to purchased reports, and deliver transactional emails such as report-ready notifications.
- Vehicle registrations you look up — stored against your account so you can revisit purchased reports.
- Payment transaction records — processed by Stripe. We store some checkout related information, such as the payment session ID, amount, status, etc. We do not store your card number, CVV, or any other payment card details.
- Technical data — IP address, browser type, and usage analytics (see the Analytics section below).
- AI chat messages — the questions you ask within a report and the responses generated, stored so you can revisit the conversation.
3. How We Use Your Data
We use your data to:
- Authenticate you with magic-link sign-in and maintain your account
- Generate vehicle reports for the registrations you request
- Run the AI verdict and chat, including follow-up questions
- Process payments and maintain purchase records
- Send you transactional emails (welcome and report-ready)
- Process refunds and respond to support enquiries
- Improve the service through aggregate analytics
- Comply with legal and tax obligations
We do not use your personal data to train AI models. The AI verdict and chat use your report data only to answer your questions about that specific vehicle.
4. Data Sharing
We share data with the following categories of processor, strictly to operate the service:
- Our data suppliers — receive the vehicle registration you look up so they can return DVLA, DVSA, Experian, UK Vehicle Data, and Percayso data on our behalf.
- Stripe — processes your payment. Stripe receives your email and card details (which we never see) and returns a payment record to us.
- Supabase — hosts our database, where your account, reports, and payment records are stored.
- Resend — delivers our transactional emails (welcome and report-ready).
- Our AI provider — receives the vehicle data from your report so it can generate the verdict and answer your chat questions. No data is shared for the purpose of training models.
- Vercel — receives anonymised usage analytics (see below).
- Google — receives anonymised usage analytics via Google Analytics 4 (see below).
We do not sell your personal data. We only share it where necessary to deliver the service, where required by law, or where you have given consent.
5. Analytics
We use Vercel and Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used — for example, which pages are visited and where users drop off. Both may set cookies and collect a pseudonymous identifier. We do not use these tools to track you across other websites, and we do not share personally identifying information with them beyond what is necessary for the analytics to function.
Google Analytics 4 transmits data to Google, including your IP address (truncated), browser type, and pages visited. Google may use this information to provide and improve its analytics services. You can learn more about how Google uses data atpolicies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
6. Data Retention
Your account, reports, and AI chat history are retained indefinitely so you can access your purchased reports at any time — including years later, when you come to sell the vehicle. Payment records are retained for as long as required for accounting and tax purposes.
You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting hello@motorverdict.co.uk. Deletion is irreversible and will remove access to all purchased reports.
7. Your Rights (UK GDPR)
Under the UK GDPR you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
- Delete your account and associated data
- Port your data to another service
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
To exercise any of these rights, contact hello@motorverdict.co.uk. We will respond within one month, as required by law. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) if you are unhappy with how we handle your data.
8. Cookies
We use essential cookies for authentication — Supabase session cookies that keep you signed in. These are strictly necessary for the service to function and cannot be disabled.
Vercel and Google may also set analytics cookies (for example, the_ga cookie, which typically lasts up to two years). We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not share cookie data with advertising networks.
9. International Transfers
Some of our processors (for example, our AI provider, Vercel, and Google) may process data outside the UK. Where this happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the processor's approved data transfer mechanism.
10. Security
We protect your data using industry-standard measures: encrypted transit (HTTPS), Row-Level Security on our database so users can only read their own data, service-role keys that never reach the browser, and a strict separation between sandbox and live payment environments. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to keep your data safe.
11. Children
Motor Verdict is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated via email where practical. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
13. Contact
